Chronicle by Carmen
Tărniceru
This story begins with… a black river, with an interior anguished
by cruelty. So, what is a story? A made-up fiction, the slightly erroneous
memory of a child, a real event or a mixture of sensations transformed into an
epic thread. The Sparkle of a Black River
is a one-woman show that includes it
all, along with historical elements, political atrocities in Chile and the
beauty and sadness of a childhood. The character waltzes between delicacy and
grotesque, compulsively passes from love to hatred and from innocence to dual
maturity. A little girl remembers the domestic violence between her
grandparents, the censorship of personal letters from during the war, tore
apart or even not sent at all. She becomes, like her grandfather, an adult with
violent actions, sensitive (ironically!) and traumatized by a dysfunctional
family, with crucial secrets and bizarre dynamics. A person who denies her
personality, who refuses to be what she is, who is in an eternal struggle with
herself and with a consciousness that ignites when she deviates from the right
path - a spark that slips into the black thread of a devastated soul.
The show transmits its essence through slightly naive and decadent
music, through rapid shifts from a tired balance to sharp cries, from macabre
gestures to strange actions (sometimes incomprehensible), in a setting focused
rather on visual effects.
