Performance in Dutch with translation into Romanian, German and English.
Direction & concept: Bram Jansen
Dramaturgy: Frank MineurLight & sound design: Guido LangendoenCoaching: Piet ArfeuilleWith: Keja Kwestro, Jiska de Wit, Vanja RukavinaBram Jansen's KIJKEN NAAR JULIE is an adaptation of Strindberg's play "Miss Julie": Jansen lets three persons act in a small kitchen, while the audience only hears a voice-over speaker who dryly comments on the tragically ending development between Miss Julie and her servant in the style of discovery channel documentaries. His analyses of what happens before the audience's eyes (the audience being forced into the part of a voyeur) sheds a different light on the unalterability of fate – human beings here are mere victims of their behavioural patterns and instincts. Bram Jansen finished his directorial studies at the Theatre Academy Maastricht with KIJKEN NAAR JULIE.
"Strindberg's MISS JULIE staged by Bram Jansen is a certain hybrid: it's half a performance, half a documentary film. By the highest standards the production follows the literature base, but all the dialogues were changed by the voice of commentator. This voice explains all events through the prism of psychology, biology and ethics. At the same time it does not deprive the audience of their right to their own interpretation."(Marie Gutbub)
