Chronicle by Carmen
Tărniceru
The Theatre is that show that manages to gather all the actors of a theatre at
the same time on the same stage, to show us what happens behind the scenes. How
is it in the backstage? At a first glance, it looks as in the teachers' lounge
in school, in the Public Finances offices, at the ministry.... With
metaphysical frustrations of professional perception, with the small joys and
inherent disappointments. With the pleasures and nerves one can only get at his
job. And with the love it creates.
The show is, or could be, a personal history of the German Theatre
in Timișoara during the communist regime and after, with the long-awaited
international representations resulting in enormous satisfactions and,
subsequently, with corresponding disappointments. Like those felt by Iraqi
actors, forever distributed in shows about the problems of the Middle East (and
described by Enkidu Khaled in Baghdad)
or other Slavic actors in Eastern Europe, distributed exclusively in
performances about Yugoslavia. Or rather, its bloody end.
We can also see the less
noble elements: vanity, favouritism, quarrels, and frictions. And behind it
all, great doses of humanity and passion. Restless, well-worked and
intensified, taken to the extreme or trampled, irritating and impressing us
alike. And they give us an extra reason to go to the theatre.
